This Week At Renovation | April 13, 2021
This week, we want to look at some of the ongoing discipleship opportunities designed to help us achieve the mission that God has called us.
Discipleship Opportunities
SerVE In Giving (APEST)
God’s story of redemption is told through the generosity of his people. We are reminded of that truth every time we see the impact that your ministry has on a child of God. This week we were given a story about the effect of someone taking the step of faith to lead a small group. That leader was equipped for their ministry because of your generosity.
Small Group Leader (Shepherding & Evangelism)
Small Groups serve to equip us in two particular ways, our evangelism and shepherding. Our small groups are the primary place that we experience deep community and care. It is where our closest relationships often form and where we share a deep sense of family. It is a place that we wrestle with our pain to produce healing.
They can also serve as a place for those who are not-yet followers of Jesus to experience the love of His people. Small groups are an environment for our friends, neighbors, co-workers, and family to experience the new reality Jesus is saving them into.
We can start small groups are our shared passions and interests. A common passion or interest is all it takes to form a group. If any of us desire to care for people or see more people come to know Jesus, we should lead a small group.
For more information or to simply start the conversation text “sgleader” to 94000. A leader from the small group team will follow up with you.
Church At Home Pod (Evangelism)
What if God is leading His church somewhere new?
What if He is saving people in ways we would never have dreamed?
What if His “next step” for them is into your door and not the church building?
Church At Home is not going to go away now that we are meeting together for Church At Water Place, and many people’s first step into God’s family in this “new world” may not happen at Water Place. That first step might take place at your very own front door.
“Pods” are more than just a “stopgap” meant to get us through until the “familiar” returns. The locus of your church isn’t restricted to the building but wherever you are. This new reality is an older one–closer to how it was always supposed to be. Jesus’ people engaged in ministry in their circles of influence. Pods are a means of equipping you in making your home the house of God. A place for the not-yet followers of Jesus to experience worshipping with His people.

T.G.I.M. (Teaching)
This past Sunday, Pastor Leonce began our new teaching series on the joy and purpose of work. Here is a quick excerpt.
“I am a recovering workaholic, a product of the American system of productivity and efficiency. More, faster, bigger, better. This postmodern mentality nearly cost me everything. For many years I derived almost the totality of my sense of worth and value from those things that I could accomplish. Like so many others, I had an identity problem.
Given that our culture “blesses” the obsessively productive, even within the context of church and church planting, my self-harming rhythms were celebrated, which only fed my ill behaviour.
Eventually, I burned out. I was left completely exhausted and devoid of even the desire to maintain the mission God gave me.
My story is not exceptional or unusual.
You can listen or watch the sermon in its entirety below. Also, Pastor Leonce wrote a blog post to unpack more about the relationship between rest/sabbath and work.
